Yesterday, our students stepped into the role of cultural ambassadors, traveling across campus to share the beauty of Japanese tradition in honor of Boy's/Children’s Day (こどもの日, Kodomo no Hi).

From our youngest in preschool to our leaders in middle school, it was a moving journey of rhythmic movement and shared spirit. Watching the students bridge our community through shared melodies and the sweetness of mochi reminded us of the resilience and joy within every child.

May we all carry the vibrant spirit of the koinobori today and every day! 🍡🎶

Yesterday, our grades 5-8 students had an opportun

Yesterday, our grades 5-8 students had an opportunity to learn how to make a perfect cup of green tea by a Japanese Green Tea Ambassador, Ms Kumiko Sammler from Portland, Oregon.
Kumiko Sensei also teaches Japanese at Cedarwood Waldorf School.

The students said that learning the whole process of making green tea was soothing and satisfying! They also found the traditional tea utensils very beautiful. And the combination of Chichi dango and green tea tasted amazing. They got to try two types of green teas: Mild Sencha (Hatsu Midori) and Hojicha (Ogura Kaori) from Koyamaen , Kyoto, Japan.

Much gratitude for Kumiko Sensei, who has visited us every spring for the past 4 years to share her deep knowledge about green tea. And mahalo for many parents who came to help us. 🍵

This week, our Honolulu Waldorf School community will gather for The Festival of Courage (Michaelmas), a decades-old tradition at HWS that unites us in celebration and reflection.

With themes of courage, facing our fears, finding balance between light and dark, and gratitude for the harvest season, this festival honors the strength within each of us as we meet challenges, both seen and unseen.

Our celebration will include music, a pageant, and shared food, as well as the much-anticipated appearance of our mighty dragon 🐉. It’s a day filled with symbolism, beauty, and the joyful spirit of community.
