Honolulu Waldorf School’s Summer Fun Early Childhood Lead teaching position is ideal for someone who loves children, enjoys working with parents, and is committed to working with colleagues.

Responsibilities include creating meaningful, fun activities that inspire curiosity and imagination for children in our Mixed-Age Early Childhood. Part of the curriculum is the rhythm of the day. The teacher balances the day with time for structured activities, as well as free play and time for quiet, reflective activities. The Lead teacher is responsible for developing and maintaining a positive rapport with your assistant, the children, and the families registered in the program.

The Lead teacher will arrive at school promptly to open the program area, check in with the director as needed, and prepare the day’s activities. Attendance is also the responsibility of the Lead teacher. Keeping sign-in and out sheets up to the minute, and monitoring the number of children in your care is essential. The Lead teacher should be working with the assistant to provide constant appropriate supervision of the group. She/He needs to be aware of any health or medical conditions of the registered children including any allergies or dietary restrictions.

The Lead Teacher will be working with the director of the program to develop curriculum, order materials, and plan excursions and visitors for the program. The Lead teacher has the support of the director to handle any sensitive issues that may arise related to child development and/or relationships with families. Additional interests, skills, and initiative in various areas such as drawing, singing, movement, gardening, and drama are also desired.
