Life at HWS

Overview

A year at the Honolulu Waldorf School is filled with a wide range of activities. Many of our seasonal activities and celebrations are common to all Waldorf schools, but there are a few that are specific to being in Hawaii. We feel that the ceremonies and rituals associated with the festivals celebrated in Waldorf schools around the world help to reveal a deeper significance in many everyday occurrences. The living rhythms of the year, taken up in each class in different ways, help provide a common foundation for our students.

The Honolulu Waldorf School also offers a variety of extracurricular clubs and activities for both our Lower and Middle School students. We hope that these opportunities enhance and enrich the student’s educational experience.

Students in Grades 1 through 8 have plenty of opportunity to engage in after school activities. Clubs and activities are based on interest and staffing availability, and include opportunities such as the popular Circus Arts Club for Grades 4-8, Drama Club, Spanish Club, and Community Service Club, just to name a few. Private and group lessons in violin, viola, cello, and bass instruments are also held on campus. These extracurricular programs support and enhance the students’ work and activities in and outside of the classroom.

Off-campus, students in Grades 7 and 8 are eligible to participate in Interscholastic League of Honolulu (ILH) Intermediate level athletics in soccer, basketball, wrestling, canoe paddling, and swimming.

Our annual rhythms are also punctuated by fundraising events that connect us to the broader community while also supporting the school in important ways.

As members of our community, HWS alumni are vital to the legacy and life of our school and we look forward to keeping you connected using this site.
