Kathryn Mahealani Wong (Kumu Wong)

Hawaiian Studies and Hula Teacher

Born and raised in Hawaiʻi, Māhealani Wong has been teaching Hula, Hawaiian Studies, Hawaiian crafts, ʻukulele, handwork, music, and language arts to Honolulu Waldorf students from grades one through high school since her children graduated from the school in 2006. Prior to teaching, she worked in administration at the front desk, in the business office, and as the Facilities/Technology manager. Māhealani is a kumu for Hālau Mele, has held hula and ʻukulele workshops, and has performed in France, Italy, Belgium, and New Zealand. Her oli training under Kumu Hula John K. Lake culminated in the title of Kahuna Kākālaleo in Nā Waʻa Lalani Kahuna o Puʻu Koholā after which she was given the title of Kumu Hula by Kumu Lake. She is currently the kumu hula for Nā Hanona o ka Hālau Hula Pā Ola Kapu. Her interests beyond the things she teaches include travel, food, gardening, reading, and environmental issues.
